Annual Conference for Law School Computing
Revolution or Evolution? It's really a question about the pace
of change. The general perception is that technology changes fast
- that's revolution, but that law school culture changes slowly
- that's evolution. Technology does stress our culture. The students
coming into law schools in 2002 have been using personal computers
since kindergarten. The GUI, web and email are taken for granted
where we had to suffer through the growing pains of the developments
of these technologies. Change is good - Change or Die - Embrace
Change, yes, but should we discard all that has defined legal education
over the past century? Of course not! But there's the point. Technology
doesn't just push towards new things, it forces us to re-examine
all of our past assumptions in light of the new ways possible of
doing things. This conference is a constant examination of our past,
present and future methods and approaches to legal education, law
school administration and law librarianship as seen through the
lens of technological change.

Technology Briefing for Law Library Directors
Friday, June 21 - all day
(By invitation only for Academic Law Library Directors - no proxies)
Many Academic Law Library Directors include IT Management as part
of their directorial duties in law schools. With the addition of these
responsibilities comes the need to understand the underlying technologies
so that staff, vendors, consultants and institutional needs can be
understood and handled. This day-long briefing intends to fill a gap
by providing a series of short, focused sessions that give an overview
of four major areas of information technology: Wireless systems and
networks, Websites and Content Management, Distance Learning Technologies/Digital
Video and IT Staffing.
