Modular to D-Sub Adapters
They take DS-25 or DS-9 and convert it to 8-position or 6-position modular jacks for patch cords.
You wire the heads ONCE, and use an appropriate length patch cable between them.
If you move something and need the cable to be longer, you just substitute another straight-through patch cable. No rewiring the cable.
The modular adapter is sturdier than a lot of regular D-Sub heads.
Use Cat-5 UTP for longer runs. We have gotten up to 1000 feet at 9600 baud.
Be logical
Know your entire cable plant
Isolate the variable
Use testers
Swap in known good equipment and/or cables
Be careful of double-faults
